Fort Myers FL – Wilbur Smith Attorneys at Law would like to commend the organizers and volunteers of the 2016 Southwest Florida Heart Ball, for the tremendous success at this years’ event held Saturday, March 5, which raised $635,000 to fight heart disease. Wilbur Smith was proud to be a part of this effort.
Congenital heart defects are the number one birth defect in America and throughout the world. Nearly one out of every 100 children is born with a heart defect. Furthermore, heart disease ranks as the number one cause of death for women, annually contributing to one out of every three deaths. Strokes are another major killer, responsible for taking 6.2 million lives each year. Many of these deaths are largely preventable, as well as treatable. The mission of the American Heart Association is to build healthier lives, free of these diseases.
Sawyer C. Smith, Managing Partner of Wilbur Smith, said, “The efforts of all the volunteers and the generosity of the Southwest Florida Heart Ball benefactors will further the good health and quality of life for those in our community, regardless of age and background.”
A special congratulations is extended to Dr. Brian C. Taschner, M.D., FACC, who was presented the 2016 Dr. Pascotto Golden Heart Award. Dr. Taschner stands out in our community as a true model citizen, whose medical contributions are critical to the wellness of Southwest Floridians.
