Fort Myers FL – An act relating to vessels has become effective as of today, July 1st 2016.
Many new laws went into effect today, July 1st, one of which could affect boaters this holiday weekend. The amendment of section F.S. 327.70 directly effects vessel safety inspections and now requires that upon inspection the operator of a vessel shall be issued a safety inspection decal. If a vessel properly displays a valid safety inspection decal a law enforcement officer may no longer stop the vessel for the sole purpose of inspecting for safety compliance and requirements.
“Be sure that if you are stopped on this holiday weekend for a safety inspection while out on the water to request your safety inspection decal and understand that if you have the decal an officer may not stop your vessel for the sole purpose of a safety compliance inspection”, explains Partner at Wilbur Smith and avid boater, Ryan W. Doyle.
