Robert P. Harris was born and raised in Rochester, New York. After graduating from East Carolina University with a degree in Criminal Justice, Mr. Harris went to Florida State University College of Law, where he graduated magna cum laude in 1996.
Before joining the Wilbur Smith Law Firm, Mr. Harris worked his way up to be a felony track supervisor with the Public Defender's Office in Fort Myers. As an Assistant Deputy Public Defender, Mr. Harris handled all types of felony cases.
Mr. Harris is admitted in the state courts of Florida as well as the federal middle district court. Mr. Harris is a member of the following organizations:
- The Florida Bar (Criminal Law Section)
- American Bar Association (Litigation Section)
- Lee County Bar Association
- National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers
- Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers
- Fort Myers chapter of Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (founding member)
- Youth baseball coach
- Adjunct professor at Edison Community College in the Criminal Justice department
